How to Improve your Self-Image

How do you see yourself? How important is self-image? Self-image is all about how you perceive yourself. It is a combination of impressions, thoughts and feelings collected over time. Your self-image can be different to how the rest of the world sees you and is closely linked to self-esteem. Self-image is how you see yourself and self-esteem is how you value yourself.

It is surprising how often we judge ourselves. We all have a little voice inside that is quick to criticise. Start by understanding that that self-image is not purely visual; your thoughts, beliefs, feelings and attitude shape your self-image. The first step to changing your self-image is to listen to your internal voice as it is its main driver. Here are some more ideas on how you can influence your self-image.

SELF Steps to Improving your Self-Image

Sleep
This may seem rather obvious, but research has shown that the majority of adults don’t get enough sleep. When you are tired and sleep derived, small things get escalated and you are not able to think or act rationally. Try to ensure you have a regular sleep pattern. This will not only help improve your self-image it will also give you additional energy to focus on other areas of your life. Bonus!

Educate
Self talk in order to train and exercise your brain to think positive thoughts. You must believe in yourself. Give yourself 3 compliments every day. Also, remind yourself of 3 things that you are grateful for that day. Write these down daily. Become your biggest fan.

Leave
Leave your comfort zone. If you continuously doing the same things over and over again you will end up feeling stuck in a rut. If you try new things you will start to feel like a new person. If you are busy having fun or planning what else you can try next, you won’t have time to keep regurgitating the same old limiting beliefs to yourself.

Forgo
Another simple suggestiion is to go through your closet. Clothes are directly linked to how you look so this can be empowering. Get rid of clothes that have been sitting there for 10 years in the hope you may fit into them again one day. Letting go of the past will help you create who you want to be in the future. Create a few power outfits that make you feel fabulous for both work and play.

It is important that your self-image be positive as well as realistic. Remember however, that having occasional negative thoughts can be a good thing as it may encourage change and growth. Improving skills takes time and practice, and improving your self-image is no different. You are responsible for what you tell yourself. Believe in yourself and see yourself as a perfect being and you will be better able to take on any challenges that life may send your way.
